A $3.9 million yacht was destroyed off Key West by an electrical fire, and nobody is blaming the battery bank. The National Transportation Safety Board believes the fire started somewhere within the sound enclosure for the starboard generator.
According to an NTSB report released earlier this month, the fire was exacerbated by a steady supply oxygen from cooling fans that could not be shut off and vents that could not be closed from outside the engine room.
The fire happened on March 16, 2021 while the yacht was anchored at the Marquesas cays with two passengers and four crew aboard. The passengers had chartered the 100-foot Hargrave, which was named Dolce Vita.
